Curly Headed Rebel vs. Persistent Mama

Last week, the Curly Headed Rebel got a "big-girl" bed.

This is what happens when you walk out the door after putting Curly Headed Rebel to bed:

The second time:

The third time: (and I could go on and on.......)

This is what finally happens after the Persistent Mama stands outside the Curly Headed Rebel's door for 2 hours:

And this is what the Curly Headed Rebel's hair looks like after a night of adventure:

And this is proof that the Curly Headed Rebel can still outsmart Persistent Mama (who thought she slept all night) after all:

Government 101

Here's a great explanation of why we must fight tooth and nail to preserve our unique form of government, which is a Constitutional Republic (NOT a democracy!!). Most people don't even have a clue what our government is actually called, much less the importance of not surrendering our liberties to the tyranny of the urgent. Our founding fathers were not only brilliant in mind, but they also had a firm understanding of history and Scripture. They were heavily influenced by the writings of Samuel Rutherford and his book Lex Rex, Latin for "Law is King". The King is not Law, but instead the Law is higher than the King. The Law is not just a bunch of man-made rules, but it is inspired by and consistent with the character and nature of Almighty God. We have a right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness because God has granted this to His creation, not because our government grants it to us. God established government and gave it the sword simply to protect the innocent and restrain evil (Romans 13). The moment we begin to think that our rights come from our government, those rights are in serious jeopardy. If government gave them to us, government could take them away. However, our right to freedom comes from Above, and we must stand against any self-deluded tyrant who places himself on such a pedestal!!

So precious!!

This video was just an impromptu performance by a couple who was staying at the Mayo Clinic. Their story is told elsewhere in an interview on YouTube, and there is also another performance of this same song that they performed after this video became a YouTube hit. It's just so cute! They have been married 62 years.

This is such a cool video!! And in honor of Presidents Day, I am going to try very hard not to say anything negative about the Marxist imposter we have in the White House today.

There Was a Little Girl by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

There was a little girl,
Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead.

And when she was good,
She was very, very good,

But when she was bad, she was horrid!

Dissing America

Dissing America

Above is a link to a great article by Lloyd Marcus, (black) Unhyphenated American
(LOL, I laugh every time I read his self-made title. Go Lloyd!!)

WHERE'S ROSEBUD??

This is the most asked question of every day, and you always cringe until you discover where the little stinker is...Today, however, was pretty harmless (unless you consider the iPod she swiped). She was on my bed, with the covers pulled back, playing quietly on an iPod. Then she slyly pretended to be snoring! She's so funny. (This video might have been longer but you can hear the boys screaming and fighting in the background...oh, well)

I have a confession to make...

We all know that blogs and Facebook profiles, etc., can be a little misleading. We always show our "best" sides, and can make life look just a little bit more "zippity doo-dah" than it might actually be. Well, I may have led you to believe that I have fairly normal children.

I have lied.
They are crazy. Just see these pictures below.

Every week, I head to the bank to make the weekly paycheck deposit, and it just so happens that we have a very friendly drive-thru teller. She always pays attention to the kids, counts them, asks how they are, and of course sends the famous suckers along with my receipt. As a result, my kids have made it their life's mission to make her laugh. Yes, it embarrasses the fool out of me, but they just get such a kick out of it (and she does too) that I endure.
I have 2 sources of hope: 1. Jason just signed up for direct deposit (PTL!) and 2. the picture below:
KK, 12 years old, has finally acquired enough dignity to be embarrassed by acting like an idiot. THERE IS HOPE.

Obviously, from the picture below taken in 2008, he hasn't always been this way.

Kids.
They can embarrass you terribly, but how boring life would be without them!!

The Old Deluder

HOW FAR WE'VE COME!! Check out this law passed in 1647 the Massachusetts Colony by the Puritans. It is credited as the original call for "public" education in America. Notice two things: First, it is based on local community control (certainly the opposite of our failed Federal Department of Education). Secondly, notice that the whole purpose behind any kind of public instruction was simply to arm the population with the ability to read God's Word. It's actually entitled "The Old Deluder Act", in reference to the that old liar Satan, who roams about seeking whom he may devour.

The Old Deluder Act (1647)
From Records of the Governor and Company of the Massachusetts Bay in New England (1853), II: 203

It being one chief project of that old deluder, Satan, to keep men from the knowledge of the Scriptures, as in former times by keeping them in an unknown tongue, so in these latter times by persuading from the use of tongues, that so that at least the true sense and meaning of the original might be clouded and corrupted with false glosses of saint-seeming deceivers; and to the end that learning may not be buried in the grave of our forefathers, in church and commonwealth, the Lord assisting our endeavors.

It is therefore ordered that every township in this jurisdiction, after the Lord hath increased them to fifty households shall forthwith appoint one within their town to teach all such children as shall resort to him to write and read, whose wages shall be paid either by the parents or masters of such children, or by the inhabitants in general, by way of supply, as the major part of those that order the prudentials of the town shall appoint; provided those that send their children be not oppressed by paying much more than they can have them taught for in other towns.

And it is further ordered, that when any town shall increase to the number of one hundred families or householders, they shall set up a grammar school, the master thereof being able to instruct youth so far as they may be fitted for the university, provided that if any town neglect the performance hereof above one year that every such town shall pay 5 pounds to the next school till they shall perform this order.

That old deluder has certainly been busy. Now we have a President who is seeking to educate the next generation on the principles (and I use that word loosely) and teachings of Saul Alinsky through his new Organizing for America. I guess I should mention the fact that Saul Alinsky dedicated his book, Rules for Radicals, to the old deluder himself, Lucifer.

Here's a brief biography from Brannon Howse about Saul Alinsky. Once you've studied this man's philosophies and strategies, you can almost feel the forked tongue hissing in your face every time you hear the President speak.

First Things First

Haven't had much time for blogging lately, but we didn't miss a single school lesson all week! Homeschooling is a lot of hard work, but I'm so thankful I have the privilege of seeing this little toothless face every morning. I'm so glad I didn't give anyone else the honor of giving him the gift of reading.

Starting off the Morning the Right Way

My sister and some friends both got me Starbucks gift cards for my birthday. (They know me well!) I quickly got online and ordered some glass mugs and syrup that I'd been wanting for a long time. Now, KK and I are hooked on cinnamon dolce lattes....DELICIOUS!

Here's my stovetop espresso percolater, the syrup, milk frother, and Bodum glass mugs.

Here's KK enjoying his.

Bub, who usually loves a sip of my white chocolate mocha, tasted this and made a face. A few minutes later he said, "Mama, I like a mocha, not that monkey coffee."

"Monkey coffee? What are you talking about, Bub?"

"You know, that kind that smells like Monkey Bread!"

LOL

Quality of Life?

The article linked below is a great concrete example of the battle for life that we are facing in our nation today. When I read language such as is in this article, about a newborn being too much of an expense to the state, a mother defended for murdering her own son...it just gives me chills. These stories are being played out in Canada and Europe, but the issues are already HERE in America. Even in my small, rural town, located in the heart of the Bible belt, I have heard "Christians" talk flippantly about whether or not a sick or elderly person has any "quality" left in his life, completely ignorant of God's Biblical standard on this all-important issue. I've heard it suggested that we sterilize the ignorant population, and nobody was even offended. SCARY! Truly, our great nation is unique in the care we provide for the sick, and I just pray that Obama isn't successful in bringing this cold, clinical, heartless standard of "efficiency" to our compassionate health care system.

A Person is a Person No Matter How Small

My son Caleb delivered the keynote address by reading his essay at the Annual Sanctity of Life Memorial sponsored by our local Christian Coalition.

I'm so proud of you, KK! That took a lot of courage!

Here are some snapshots from the day:

I give a yearly update on the crisis pregnancy work done in our county

Here, the children are placing memorial crosses on the courthouse lawn, 1 cross represents 1 million aborted babies. This year, we placed 50 crosses.

MASSACHUSETTS IS THE GAME CHANGER

Here's a great article by Dick Morris that explains just how important tomorrow's Senate race in Massachusetts is for our nation. CHRISTIANS, PRAY!

MASSACHUSETTS IS THE GAME CHANGER

Cheez!

Summer Rose has become famous around here for her precious grin, and the only thing that makes it even more precious is her now shouting "Cheez!" every time she sees a camera.

In Memory...

It doesn't take much to be labeled a hero in today's society.....maybe hit some homeruns, get a few holes-in-one, score some touchdowns, sing a loud fast song, act in a movie. It's true that these may require physical stamina and self-discipline, but the application of this hard work is nothing but vain pursuits that will count as nothing in eternity. (Go ahead and get mad. I stand by my Biblical interpretation of sports, especially professional sports as a career choice.) In our recreation-obsessed culture, we have forgotten that the definition of hero is someone who has done something brave and admirable, someone who stares in the face of danger and conquers his/her own fears in order to accomplish something noble.

One such heroine was Miep Gies (pronounced Meep Kees), the secretary for Otto Frank who, along with 5 others, helped hide and provide for the Frank family and 4 others who were hidden in an annex built onto a Dutch warehouse during World War II. For more than 2 years, she risked her life to provide food, shelter, and care for them. It was Miep who, after they were betrayed to the Nazis and the families whisked away to death camps, found the now famous diary of the teenager Anne Frank. She refused to read the diary, respecting Anne's privacy and hoping she would return to collect it herself one day. When Otto Frank returned in 1945, he soon discovered that he was the sole survivor of his beloved family. It was then that Miep pulled Anne's diary from a locked drawer and gave it to her father. The rest is history.

Here is a description of Miep and her companions in the words of Anne Frank:

On January 28, 1944, Anne Frank expresses her amazement at the fact that there are so many noble people, selflessly helping and saving other people:

The best example of this is our own helpers, who have managed to pull us through so far and will hopefully bring us safely to shore, because otherwise they'll find themselves sharing the fate of those they're trying to protect. Never have they uttered a single word about the burden we must be, never have they complained that we're too much trouble. They come upstairs every day and talk to the men about business and politics, to the women about food and wartime difficulties and to the children about books and newspapers. They put on their most cheerful expressions, bring flowers and gifts for birthdays and holidays and are always ready to do what they can. That's something we should never forget; while others display their heroism in battle or against the Germans, our helpers prove theirs every day by their good spirits and affection.'

Below is a picture of Miep and her husband Jan Gies (who also aided the Franks) as they returned once again to the warehouse:

Miep did not consider herself a hero, only a compassionate human being who was looking out for her fellow man. This world could use a few more Mieps!

Check out this website for a detailed history of Miep Gies as well as the story of Anne Frank:

Sanctity of Life Month

I haven't had much time for blogging this week, I'm working on some stuff for LMO (the crisis pregnancy center that I founded in 2001), including the newsletter and tax receipts, etc.

Just wanted to remind everyone that January is Sanctity of Human Life Month, so don't forget to mention this to your family, your pastor, your Sunday School class, and your friends.

There are dozens (if not more) of great pro-life websites, but here's one that I just recently found. It has a ton of valuable information about all aspects of the pro-life issue:

www.pregnantpause.org

"If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?"
Proverbs 24:11, 12

Big Brother and Big Sister

I just love how Summer runs to her KK and her Sis every time she gets in trouble or wants something. It's a challenge trying to train and discipline one with big siblings around to pet her, but it's worth the extra effort when I see the love these children have for each other. Not to mention, it's great practice for Caleb and Madelyn. They are as proficient at caring for the baby as I am, and I don't force them to do it; they just jump in voluntarily and love every minute of it (well, mostly...LOL).

Thought for the Day

"There was a time when we expected nothing of our children but obedience, as opposed to the present, when we expect everything of them but obedience."
--Anatole Broyard

The only 2 commandments given directly to children in Scripture are:

"Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth." Eph. 6:1-3

and

"Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord" Col. 3:20

Lord, help me to hold the standard high so that my children can be found within Your circle of blessing.

Back to Reality

Okay, so I've been slacking on my blog through the holidays, but I've been busy doing important stuff...like playing Mario Kart, Wii boxing, pushing the Cozy Coupe, programming iPods, staying up late and getting up late, and just all around enjoying our little vacation from school. We were blessed with a wonderful Christmas and New Year, and I just praise God for the sweet times of fellowship we've been allowed to share with our family and friends during these holidays. Here are a few snapshots from these past few days.

Honorable Wishes from an Honorable President

Since we're all starving to death for honorable words of encouragement from our President...words that give tribute to our God and our great country.....I want to post this short Christmas wish from President Ronald Reagan (1981).
